Project R.I.S.E. is a collaborative program between the University of Texas at El Paso and Canutillo Middle School to provide an opportunity for students to work in a small group setting on a weekly basis with UTEP College of Education students. The lessons that that the UTEP students implement encourage critical thinking, comprehension, and collaborative efforts.
Response to Intervention (RTI) is a multi-tier approach to the early identification and support of students with learning and behavior needs. The RTI process begins with high-quality instruction and universal screening of all children in the general education classroom. Struggling learners are provided with interventions at increasing levels of intensity to accelerate their rate of learning. CMS offers a three-tiered system for all students:
- Tier 1- High-quality classroom instruction, screening and group interventions
- Tier 2- Targeted interventions
- Tier 3- Intensive interventions and comprehensive evaluations
The Tier 2 intervention is the Mentoring Minds class that students receive every day for 35 minutes. These Mentoring Minds classes concentrate on specific content areas. Tier 3 interventions include specific math or reading classes that meet every other day for 70 minutes.
